About the Department

Academic wing
The department of Biochemistry deals with teaching Biochemistry to the undergraduates and postgraduates in a comprehensive manner. All the components of the subject are taught in a clinically oriented approach so as to make the subject meaningful and interesting. The highly qualified and skilled staff is a valuable asset of the department and the working of the department is reflected from the excellent pass percentage and the highest number of distinctions. Regular class tests, time to time evaluations, the feed back from the students about the quality of the teaching, the encouragement and counseling of the students at the personal level are the tools for the best outcome of the department. The concepts are refreshed and the students are encouraged to discuss the problems during tutorials. Regular seminars help the students to build up the confidence and update the existing knowledge. Practicals are conducted to make the students learn the applications of Biochemistry in the diagnostic field. Evaluation of the case studies, interpretation of the blood and urinary reports help the students to apply the fundamental facts of biochemistry in a relevant manner and this provides a platform to prepare the students to be good clinicians in the future days to come. Almost all the faculty is trained in Basic course workshop in medical education technologies, Dr Sahiba Kukreja got training from the regional centre, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana
The Clinical Biochemistry wing of Central Clinical Laboratory is functioning round the clock.
The laboratory has been accredited with NABL ISO 15189 Certifiction.
It is well equipped with:

- Fully automatic Electrophoresis.
The Various investigations are being done under the expertise of qualified M.D. doctors, who have also been trained in Quality Management Systems and Internal Audit in Medical Labs as per ISO 15189.
Apart from routine investigations, special investigations like hormone assays, Tumor markers, Total Iron profile, Vitamin- D etc are being done. Many of the technicians are also trained in Quality Management Systems and Internal Audit in Medical Labs as per ISO 15189. The department also holds regular Training Programs for the technicians in equipment management and functioning and Quality control by experts from Johnsons & Johnsons and Siemens, apart from this,weekly Training programs are conducted by doctors for training the Staff nurses for Sample Collection procedures to minimize the pre-analytical errors.
