Department of Chest and TB


The department is well staffed and well equipped to deal with all sorts of Respiratory ailments. The state of the art equipment and facilities is ready for any respiratory eventuality.

The 30 bedded indoor facility for respiratory patients and two isolation wards for swine flu patients cater to all respiratory needs of indoor patients. The wards are well equipped with Ventilators, monitors, pulse oximeters and nebulizers. 

DOTS therapy under RNTCP programme is being implemented. Fluorescent microscopy is used for detection of M. tuberculosis in tuberculosis patients.

Video flexible fibreoptic Bronchoscopy is routinely used for doing Biopsy, BAL and TBLB in patients. Foreign Body removal from the lungs and difficult endotracheal intubations is routinely done.

Computerized spirometry is done daily. The various other procedures like Pleural Biopsy, pleural aspiration, pleurodesis, FNAC, CT guided FNAC, Chest tube drainage are routinely done.

Special Asthma clinic, Smoking Cessation clinic and MDR/XDR clinic are also run in the OPD.

An extensive and rigrous Post graduate teaching-programme is followed in the department. Undergraduate MBBS teaching is routinely done.
