Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology - Facilities


Health Care Services provided are as:

  • Routine and emergency clinical work related to women health care.
  • Emergency obstetrics services available around the clock including critical care, ICU, HDU facilities.
  • Antenatal and postnatal clinic
  • Free maternity services under Janani Bhalai Scheme
  • Family welfare clinic – Providing contraception, MTP, sterilization services.
  • STI/HIV clinic provides testing and treatment facilities, Pap smear for cervical cancer screening is undertaken. PPTCT programme is implemented as per NACO guidelines.
  • Adolescent clinic is available for adolescent problems
  • Infertility clinic including complete investigations and treatment for both partners, laparoscopy, Hysteroscopy facilities are available.
  • ART facilities under processing and consideration
  • Cancer clinic – screening, detection, prevention having cytology, colposcopy, cryotherapy, electric cautery,   leep cautery with complete back up of oncology unit (SGRD Cancer Hospital) for oncosurgery and oncotherapy is available.
  • Menopausal Clinic: For Mid life woman, screening and diagnosis of menopausal ailments and use of menopausal medicine available. Cancer screening also undertaken.
  • Geriatrics Care including medical and surgical management of Gynae ailments along with management of medical co morbidities is available.
  • National Programmes related to woman health undertaken.

Academics and research work includes:

a) Seminars , symposia , journal club , case presentations, emergency obstetrical drills.

b) Thesis subjects and other research projects under Central Research Laboratory.

c) Publication of research work, case reports, review articles, original articles as per MCI guidelines.

d) Stat meeting (Departmental, Intra departmental)

e) Clinico pathological meet.

f) Faculty involvement in zonal, national conference related to Obst/Gynae and subspecialty subjects, as speaker, panelist, chairperson.

g) Presentation

h) The joint efforts of obstetrics and paediatrics are utilized for decision making of abnormal / congenitally  malformed fetuses.

Neonatal paediatric services are available to handle live newborns with disease.

i) Joint seminars with paediatrics are under taken in field of immunization, neonatal resuscitation prenatal / antenatal risk assessment, newborn management, inutero foetal medical / surgical therapy and advanced procedures.

j) Radio diagnosis department  provides imaging of all types including CT scan, MRI besides USG (Trans abdominal / Transvaginal Colour Doppler).  Regular research projects of both departments are carried on by sharing knowledge and data.

National progaramme:-

  • The department is actively involved in many National programmes namely:-
  • Reproductive and child health programme including safe motherhood.
  • Family Welfare programme.  (Contraception/ MTP)
  • National Anemia Control progamme – esp for antenatal mothers by distribution of Iron and Folic acid tablets.
  • National Aids Control Programme including prevention of Parent to child transmission programme and STI / RTI management.
  • National Cancer screening / control programme for care of genital tract and breast carcinoma.
  • Extended programme of immunization for antenatal mothers for Tetanus Toxid.
  • Genital Tuberculosis under Revised National Tuberculosis Control programme (RNTCP)

The infrastructure in Gynae department fulfills all required specified standards. It has air conditioned and well equipped labour room, septic labour room and O.T’s.  All types of complicated & high risk pregnancies and surgeries can be handled including Oncosurgery and Laparoscopic surgery.  It is equipped with HDU and ICU beds. The allied Paediatric facilities include neonatalogical vigilance as well as NICU / PICU services.
