Department of Radiotherapy - Facilities


SGRD Rotary Cancer Hospital is fully equipped with latest radiotherapy machine for both external and internal RT.

  1. It has air Conditioned Chemotherapy wards both general and private.
  2. Operation Theatre for carrying out Brachy therapy procedures
  3. Facility for infusional Chemotherapy.
  4. Facility of Palliative Care for cancer patients with staff trained in Palliative Care.
  5.  The hospital has facility for admitting and treating terminally ill Cancer patients.
  6. Audio Visual aids (LCD projector and laptop) for teaching purpose.
  7. Is running National Cancer Registry Programme in Collaboration   with Indian Council of Medical Research, Bangoluru, India.
  8. SGRD Rotary Cancer hospital is one of the major participants of Mukh Mantri Punjab Cancer Rahat Kosh Scheme (MMPC RKS). More than 10,000 patients have undergone cashless treatment under this scheme since, july2011.
  9. Daily nearly 150 to 200 patients attend the department for treatment and approximately 15 to 20 new patients are registered.
  10. Faculty with good teaching experience is available in the department. Including qualified Senior Doctors-2 and Medical Officer-3, Medical Physicists-3, Radiotherapy Technologist-9, Radiographer-1, Computer Operator-1, Nursing Staff-3, Security Guard-7 and other staff-9 in the hospital.             

Departmental Overview

Department of Radiotherapy & Oncology, Sri Guru Ramdas Rotary Cancer Hospital, established by Rotary Cancer Care Foundation in collaboration with Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee and a constituent of Sri Guru Ramdas Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Sri Amritsar is dedicated to the selfless service of poor cancer patients.

The hospital is equipped with both Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy facilities.

TELETHERAPY:

THERATRON 780-E Co-60 Unit

The unit was installed in the year 2000.

ELEKTA SYNERGY Triple Energy Linear Accelerator

The unit has triple photon energies 4,6 and 15 MV and seven electron energies 4,6,8,10,12,15 and 18 MeV with 3D-CRT, IMRT,IGRT (X-Ray Volume imaging system) modalities, iView GT Megavoltage Portal imaging system, SYMMETRY option for respiratory tumors and upgradable to Stereotactic Radiotherapy/Radio surgery. Linence for patient treatment (IMRT, IGRT, 3D- CRT) has been obtained from AERB , Mumbai and treatment has been started.

BRACHYTHERAPY:

NUCLETRON 18-Channel micros electron High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (also known as internal radiotherapy) Unit was installed in the year 2005 for treatment of cervical cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer etc.

SIEMENS SOMATOM DEFINITION AS OPEN 20-Slice CT-Simulator

CT simulation is a procedure used during the treatment planning stage to identify the exact location and size of the area that needs treatment. Patients coming to Sri Guru Ramdas Rotary Cancer Hospital will be fortunate to be able to experience the latest CT simulation technology - a new, high-tech CT suite called the Somatom Definition AS Open 20-slice that combines advanced treatment with an environment that is more positive for the patient. The equipment has been successfully installed and is in use for patient CT simulation .

DOSIMETRY EQUIPMENTS

Cutting edge dosimeter equipments viz. Blue Phantom 2 Radiation Field Analyser, equipments related to patient plan verification, routine machine quality assurance, absolute and relative dosimeter tools to precisely measure the dose delivered by treatment modalities used for cancer treatment

TREATMENT PLANNING SYSTEMS

2D and 3D Treatment Planning Systems for planning radiotherapy treatment of patients; Theraplan TPS for conventional 2D planning of patients on Cobalt Teletherapy Unit, Elekta Planning Workspace for planning of 3D-CRT, IMRT, IGRT, VMAT and electron treatments on Elekta Synergy Linear Accelerator.   

MOULD ROOM FACILITY

Once the patient is  asked to attend for some radiotherapy treatment which is a very precise treatment, hence to ensure accuracy in that particular treatment the patient will have a mould made of the area being treated. This mould will be worn each day during the treatment. So, the department has dedicated mould room facility with provision of Sagittal laser in the mould room itself for accurate patient positioning.

CHEMOTHERAPY FACILITY

Chemotherapy facility is also available for cancer patients. Department has fully air Conditioned four general wards with 40 beds. Daily approximately 30-40 patients receive chemotherapy. For admitted patients department has 16 bedded air conditioned in patient ward. Besides this palliative Care, Day Care and Nutrition is also given. The department has trained nursing staff to deliver and handle chemotherapeutic drugs. Single agent, multidrug, targeted therapy etc. all types of chemotherapy drugs and regimens are given as per International Standards.
