Department of Anaesthesia
Department of Anaesthesia & Intensive care at SGRDIMS&R is one of the prestigious department of the institute. It was set up under the leadership of Dr S.S.Walia on 1998 and was taken over by Dr Ruchi Gupta in 2006. Over the years the department has grown both in the terms of personnel strength and the scope of anaesthesiology practice, research, teaching and training.
The department started postgraduate course (MD) in 2006 with the intake of two students. At present 16 students are taken every year for the course through the all India common entrance examination(Neet-PG). The department follows a comprehensive teaching programme for the postgraduates which includes seminars, journal clubs, case discussions, in addition to daily teaching activities based on the cases scheduled for surgery and the patients in the intensive care unit. The students are encouraged to attend various workshops, conferences and training programmes. They are guided for paper and poster presentations in various conferences.
The department of anaesthesia provides specialized anaesthesia services to all the surgical specialties and super specialties including urology, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, oncological surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. It boasts of world of the art equipment including advanced anaesthesia workstations, flexible video endoscopes and ultrasound machines. These aid in the management of difficult airway management cases and advance regional anaesthesia techniques. Non-operating room anaesthesia services for radiology, radiotherapy and ENT procedures are also provided. The intensive care unit managed by the department caters to critically ill patients using a multidisciplinary approach and has facilities for POCUS, bronchoscopy and bedside blood gas monitoring.
