Department of Pharmacology - Facilities
- Academics and teaching: The department is dedicated to both theoretical and practical aspects of Pharmacology, encompassing both CAL (computer assisted learning) based experimental and clinical sciences. The department strengthens the knowledge of students in various topics like Medical therapy, Clinical Research, Bioinformatics, Pharmacogenomics, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Personalized Medicine, Essential medicines, Pharmacovigilance, Drug information services, Prescription Writing and assessed by timely Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE).
- Research: The department also provide support infrastructure for investigators of other departments in conducting clinical, experimental and biomarker research
- Curriculum: The department follows an integrated NMC based curriculum for Post Graduates, undergraduates within the framework of regulatory bodies and maintains a trustable professional activities for assessment of competency-based residency program for postgraduates, Undergraduates and various other medical students.
- Clinical Prescribing: The department monitor and regularize rational prescription and error-free dispensing to the patients, promote a critical approach towards drug promotion, promote safe and scientific use of drug in community
- To develop specialties like pharmacogenomics and therapeutic drug monitoring with state of the art technology to provide individualized patient care at an affordable cost.
- Infrastructure: Department of Pharmacology has very spacious offices, laboratories, seminar rooms and museum. The laboratories are equipped with all instruments and equipments required for UG, PG training and research.
- Teaching Learning Method: Didactic lectures, Self-Directed Learning (SDL), Small Group Teaching (SGT), Integrated teaching- Correlation, Nesting, sharing
- Practical: Students’ seminars, Tutorials/Assignments, Problem Based Learning, Electives, Integrated Teaching: Clinical case Discussion, webinars, CMEs, workshops, Conducting Quiz, Debate, Students’ Research projects, Role play, Conferences, Seminar, Journal club, Case Discussion for UG / PG students.
- The postgraduates students are encouraged to visit various other departments (clinical / Paraclinical) in the institutes, participate in other teaching programs, conduct research, publish papers and present papers in conferences. The training is directed towards making postgraduates capable of handling pharmacological concepts for use in Academics, Teaching, Research, Patient care, Public health and the Pharmaceutical industry.
- The department is recognized as a regional centre by the Govt. of India (CDSCO) for collecting data on Adverse Drug Events / Reactions. This data is collected from SGRD hospital, analyzed and sent to the National ADR centres from where sent to World Health Organization (WHO) a global, hierarchical system where reports are funneled up to the WHO's central database, VigiBase, which is maintained by the Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC).
